Reports on Korean Children for October, 2005

JiHeun Jung seems a changed boy since last year. We took him and several other Korean children to the Dairy Queen last night for a treat, and we were so impressed by his English skills and his happy, relaxed manner and by his good manners in thanking us and in cleaning up any spills on the table. He seems to be thriving on attending Puntledge school without his sister, although he initially was very shy. His host mother reports that he works hard at his school work and he enjoys playing games and sports with his host brother, Gil. He has a good sense of humour and had fun with the other children, speaking English with them the entire hour we were together. JiHeun is thriving!

지헌이는 지난해에 비해 많이 변한 것 같습니다. 어젯밤에 다른 한국학생들이랑 제과점에 데리고 갔었는데 지헌이의 영어실력, 행복한 표정,
항상 고맙다고 말하는 좋은 매너, 테이블 정리 등의 깔끔한 행동에 우리들도 놀랬답니다. 지헌이가 누나랑 떨어져서 혼자 펀렛지초등학교에 다니면서부터 수줍어하던 모습이 사라지고 상당이 성장한 것 같습니다.
홈스테이 엄마 말로는 그가 학교숙제도 꼬박꼬박 잘하고 홈스테이의 질이랑 게임이나 스포츠를 하면서 잘 지내고 있다고 하십니다. 유머 감각도 있어서 다른 아이들과 영어로 놀기도 잘하며, 나와도 항상 스스럼없이 영어로 대화하곤 하였답니다. 지헌이는 정말 성공적으로 잘 하고 있답니다.

DaEun Jung is developing into a confident, pleasant young woman. She has matured over the summer, and says she is really enjoying attending Middle School where she has a number of good friends that she enjoys activities with. She also is studying harder, finding the work more challenging and accepting responsibility for doing it. She continues to enjoy her artistic pursuits and finds opportunities whenever she can to do art work….I complimented her on being “an artist” and she beamed proudly and said “Thank you!” We will be having a Hallowe’en costume bowling party on October 20, and she and the other Korean children are looking forward to the event. She intends to dress up as a “witch” on Hallowe’en and along with her brother is excited about tis first Canadian Hallowe’en experience.

다은이는 신뢰성이 있고, 즐거운 작은 여인이랍니다. 그는 여름 동안 많이 어른스러워 졌답니다. 그는 정말로 중학교에 다니는 것을 좋아하고 거기에서 많은 Activity를 하면서 좋은 많은 친구를 사귀었답니다. 또한 주어진 숙제나 공부를 더 열심히 하며 책임감 있는 일을 잘 수행하고 도전하려고 노력한답니다.
그녀는 계속적으로 미술을 좋아하고 언제든지 기회가 오면 하려고 노력한답니다. 내가 그녀를 예술가라고 불러주면 우쭐해서 다은이는 고맙다고 말하곤 하니까요. 우리는 10월 30일 할로윈 가장무도회 복장을 한 파티를 한답니다. 그녀와 다른 한국어린이들 모두 그 날을 고대하고 있답니다. 그녀는 마녀 복장을 하고 싶어 하고 동생과 같이 처음 맞이하는 캐나다의 할로윈데이를 즐길 예정이랍니다.

Minji Kim continues to thrive in her homestay and school. She is a quiet leader, an impressive young lady! Her English skills are very strong and she is enjoying the challenges of her school. She has many happy memories of camping experiences of the summer, but as the weather is changing and becoming cooler and wet, camping is over for the year. Her whole face lights up with delight when she talks to the evenings she watched the starry sky and the night she saw the Northern Lights. We took her and some other Korean children to the Dairy Queen for treats last night, and as usual, we were so pleased with Minji’s courtesy, friendliness and happy manner. She is looking forward to Hallowe’en as she will be attending parties with friends and a bowling costume party with other Korean children. She is doing well, and we will be very sorry to see her leave in January.

민지는 계속적으로 그녀의 학교생활과 홈스테이를 만족스럽게 지내고 있습니다. 민지는 리더쉽이 있고, 열정적인 젊은 숙녀랍니다. 영어를 매우 잘하고 학교에서도 아주 적극적으로 활동하고 있답니다.
여름 방학 동안에 캠핑을 하면서 많은 추억거리와 오랫동안 남을 많은 행복한 기억들을 만들었답니다.
지금은 날씨가 추워지고 비가 와서 캠핑은 끝났지만요.
민지는 저녁에 밤하늘의 빛나는 별을 쳐다본 애기와 오로라를 본 애기를 할 때는 정말로 얼굴에 환희가 차올라 온 얼굴이 밝아 지곤 한답니다.
어제 다른 아이들과 제과점에 모였을 때 항상 그랬듯이 민지는 예의 바르고 친절하며 행복한 매너를 보여 주었답니다.

민지도 가장 파티를 하는 할로윈데이가 고대되고 다른 아이들과 같이 즐길 일들이 기다려 진답니다. 민지는 아주 잘하고 있답니다. 우리들은 민지가 1월이면 가게 된다는 사실에 매우 슬퍼 진답니다.

Sillia (Seo Hyeon) Kang has impressed herself upon us as a very intelligent creative little girl who loves to challenge herself. Her teacher has found a more advanced mathematics text book that she is working from, and she is doing very good work in her other courses following the regular curriculum. Intellectually, she is ahead of her class, but socially, she is enjoying her placement. She loves to play basketball which she does weekly at the community recreation centre. She and her host siblings are adjusting to playing and living together and life at home seems to be going smoothly. She enjoyed her encounters with the mountain jays and feeding them from her hand. When we took Sillia and several other Korean children for treats, she said she was happy and certainly her little face glows when she talks with people. She prefers to associate with Canadian children, however, as she is determined to learn as much English as she can. Sillia is doing well!
실리아는 우리에게 항상 자신에게 도전하고, 지적이며, 창조적인 소녀로서 매우 감명을 준 어린이랍니다.
선생님이 그에게 8학년 수학책을 주면서 그가 수학 공부를 할 수 있도록 하였고 다른 과목도 아주 훌륭하게 잘 따라 하고 있답니다.
지적이고 학급에서 우수한 학생이면서, 얌전하여 자기 자리를 지킬 줄 아는 아이랍니다. 일주일에 한번씩 ?꼽㈆뮌抉?센터에서 농구하는 것을 좋아한답니다.
홈스테이 아이들과도 잘 지내며 집에서 아주 순조롭게 잘 지내고 있답니다. 산짐승들을 만나면 먹이도 주고 즐겨 한답니다. 아이들이랑 함께 제과점에 갔을 때 자기는 행복하다고 말했고 다른 사람에게 애기를 할 때는 얼굴에 홍조를 띠었답니다.
영어공부를 더 많이 하기 위하여 실비아는 캐나다 아이들과 사귀는 것을 더 좋아한답니다.
실비아는 아주 잘 지내고 있답니다.
